The Macallan Single Malt Scotch 25yr - Murray Mcdavid
In tom Morton's book "Spirit of Adventure", he has a chapter on Speyside titled "into the heart of blandness". We feel he has a point. There are, however, a few exceptions and this is one of them. Originally called the Elchies Distillery (you can see why they changed the name) it is famous for the high number of small stills and Olorosso Sherry cask ageing which gives a heavier, fuller flavoured malt. At any age it shows as a real superstar. A deep golden colour greets you with this 25 year old Speyside superstar. Rich honeyed nose with bags of sweet nutty aroma. The flavour is deep and complex with smoke hanging in the backdrop. Its full clean and firm texture gives way to a dry, smooth and satisfying finish.
